The Director-General for Health, Dr Patrick Amoth, has met with the newly appointed Heads of Directorates at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Nairobi to enhance coordination, leadership, and accountability across the Ministry.
The strategic meeting, held on 5th November 2025, marked an important step in aligning the Ministry’s leadership with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the broader vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all Kenyans.
During the engagement, Dr Amoth emphasized the need for professionalism, teamwork, and integrity as key pillars for effective public service delivery. He reminded the new leadership team of the critical role they play in driving health sector reforms, policy implementation, and performance improvement in line with the Health Act, 2017.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening governance mechanisms within the Ministry, noting that enhanced collaboration and communication between directorates would be essential in ensuring seamless service delivery and the realization of health goals under BETA and UHC.
Dr Amoth urged the directorate heads to foster interdepartmental cooperation and build synergy across their respective mandates. He further called for a renewed focus on evidence-based decision-making, innovation, and accountability as tools to strengthen the Ministry’s capacity to respond to emerging health challenges and improve outcomes at both national and county levels.
The newly appointed Heads of Directorates include Stephen Muleshe (Public Health), Dr Joel Gondi (Family Health), Dr Omar Ahmed (Health Sector Coordination and Intergovernmental Relations), Dr Nazila Ganatra (Health Products and Technologies), Dr Nancy Njeru (Digital Health, Health Financing, Policy and Research), Dr Andrew Toro (Curative and Clinical Services), Dr Bashir Isaack (Family Health), and Dr Lucy Musyoka (Health Standards).
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to build a cohesive, accountable, and visionary leadership structure capable of steering the health sector towards resilience, inclusivity, and efficiency. By enhancing coordination and leadership at the directorate level, the Ministry aims to improve policy execution and strengthen healthcare delivery systems nationwide.
These efforts are part of the Ministry’s ongoing reforms to ensure all Kenyans have access to affordable, quality healthcare services in alignment with the country’s development priorities and global health standards.
