The government has launched the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project in Siaya County, reaffirming its commitment to empowering young people through sustainable learning, earning, and saving opportunities. The initiative aims to create practical pathways for youth empowerment by integrating technical training, entrepreneurship support, and digital skilling to enhance employability and innovation across the country.
The launch event, held at the IEBC Hall in Siaya Town, brought together county leaders, development partners, and youth representatives to discuss strategies for effective implementation of the project. The forum emphasized collaboration among government agencies, county administrations, and community stakeholders to ensure the initiative benefits young people at the grassroots level.
The NYOTA Project forms a critical part of the Government’s broader agenda to promote inclusive economic growth and social development. It is aligned with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which prioritizes youth participation in driving national progress. Through NYOTA, young Kenyans will gain access to technical skills, entrepreneurship training, and business mentorship, enabling them to participate more effectively in the economy.
The project also complements the ongoing health and social protection reforms under the Social Health Authority (SHA) through the Taifa Care model, which aims to strengthen primary healthcare and ensure universal access to quality medical services. By linking health and empowerment initiatives, the government seeks to create a holistic framework that promotes both economic and social well-being among the youth.
Leaders at the event encouraged young people to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the NYOTA Project to transform their lives and communities. They highlighted the importance of innovation, financial inclusion, and self-reliance in addressing unemployment and poverty among the youth.
The launch underscored the government’s resolve to invest in the potential of the youth as key drivers of Kenya’s social and economic transformation. Through partnerships with local governments and development agencies, the NYOTA Project is expected to inspire a new generation of skilled, empowered, and entrepreneurial young Kenyans ready to contribute to the nation’s development agenda.
