The Ministry of Health has officially launched the Kenya Electronic National Vaccine and Immunization Portal (KeNVIP), a cloud-based system set to revolutionize the management of immunization data across the country. The launch, officiated by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, took place during the World Bank Cold Chain Equipment Flag-Off Ceremony held at Afya House.
KeNVIP is designed to serve as a real-time digital platform for managing vaccine and immunisation data. It aims to enhance decision-making, increase traceability, and improve accountability in vaccine service delivery. According to the Ministry, this initiative marks a crucial step in transitioning immunisation records into the government’s central data systems, promoting efficiency and accuracy.
“In tandem with this physical infrastructure, I am proud to officially launch the Kenya Electronic National Vaccine and Immunization Portal KeNVIP,” said CS Duale during the event.
In addition to the digital portal, the Ministry flagged off 2,000 new cold chain equipment units. These include solar- and electricity-powered refrigerators, cold boxes, and temperature monitors, all essential for maintaining vaccine potency by ensuring proper storage and transportation temperatures.
This upgrade in cold chain infrastructure represents a $16 million investment by the government, with strong backing from international partners including the World Bank, UNICEF, and WHO.
“Immunisation is one of the pillars of primary healthcare and a powerful driver of public health,” Duale noted, emphasizing that proper storage conditions are vital for vaccine efficacy. He highlighted that the dual launch of KeNVIP and cold chain equipment aligns with the event’s theme: “Strengthening Immunization Infrastructure for a Healthier Nation.”
The Health CS praised the role of international partners in making the launch possible and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to universal vaccine access. He urged parents and caregivers to take advantage of the expanded immunization infrastructure.
“Vaccines save lives, and thanks to this investment, they are now safer and closer than ever before,” he concluded.
The launch of KeNVIP and the cold chain expansion reflect Kenya’s renewed focus on using technology and robust infrastructure to improve public health outcomes.
