The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has announced mandatory registration for all ambulance services and emergency care personnel in Kenya. The move, announced by CEO Dr. David Kariuki, aims to ensure safe, professional, and standardized pre-hospital care.
The registration applies to all ambulances, whether public or private, and all emergency care staff, including paramedics, EMTs, and ambulance operators. KMPDC says this exercise will improve service quality, reduce disparities, and strengthen oversight in a sector that has historically faced gaps in accountability.
The registration also supports the Social Health Authority’s Emergency, Critical Care, and Chronic Illness Fund, helping to operationalize emergency services nationwide. Providers must submit applications via email or in person at KMPDC offices. Forms and requirements are available on the Council’s website.
The deadline for registration is September 15, 2025. Those who fail to comply risk sanctions, including being prohibited from operating ambulances or offering emergency medical services.
Dr. Kariuki emphasized that the exercise is not only a legal requirement under the Health Act 2017 but also a critical step to safeguard lives. KMPDC remains committed to ensuring safe, accessible, and high-quality emergency medical services for all Kenyans..
