In a major step towards digital transformation, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has launched a new electronic registration system aimed at modernising regulatory processes within the country’s healthcare sector.
The system, unveiled by KMPDC CEO Dr. David Kariuki, is designed to enhance operational efficiency, improve service delivery, and promote transparency in the registration and licensing of medical, dental, and community oral health practitioners and institutions. The move aligns with the government’s broader digital transformation agenda.
According to Dr. Kariuki, the transition from a paper-based model to a secure, user-friendly digital platform marks a transformative milestone in the council’s mission to uphold high standards in healthcare regulation. “By embracing technology, KMPDC is making the process more transparent, efficient, and accessible,” he noted. “This digital shift not only simplifies access to registration but also reinforces public confidence in Kenya’s healthcare regulatory framework.”
The new e-registration platform features a step-by-step interface that guides applicants through the submission process. Users are required to provide key information such as facility name, location, classification, details of directors, services offered, and personnel available. Supporting documentation demonstrating compliance with relevant regulations must also be uploaded.
The system is designed to boost data accuracy through automated validation and offers real-time audit trails, ensuring full accountability. It also centralises digital records for easier retrieval and updates, improving overall regulatory oversight.
In addition to operational benefits, the platform is fully compliant with the Data Protection Act 2019. It safeguards users’ sensitive information via encrypted data transmission, automated logs, and stringent access controls. The 24/7 accessibility feature also empowers applicants to manage their submissions at their convenience.
Internally, KMPDC staff will benefit from streamlined workflows enabled by automated alerts and approvals, which are expected to cut down processing times and reduce bureaucratic inefficiencies.
This innovation marks a pivotal advancement in Kenya’s healthcare regulation landscape, reflecting KMPDC’s commitment to adopting modern solutions that support quality health services and regulatory excellence.
