The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has significantly strengthened its capacity to train health professionals and enhance community outreach through the acquisition of eight new vehicles. This expansion brings the institution’s fleet to 158, providing a major boost to student access to clinical placements, rural training opportunities, and community health programs. The vehicles will also support medical camps, environmental initiatives, and social outreach projects, giving students invaluable hands-on experience while improving healthcare delivery in underserved areas.
As the 2025/2026 academic year commences, KMTC has already welcomed 11,058 students out of an expected 15,000. With 91 campuses across 45 counties, the institution continues to stand as a cornerstone in Kenya’s health sector. By December, it is projected to graduate 22,000 health professionals, further strengthening both the national and global health workforce.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting KMTC’s growth and modernization. Plans are underway to incorporate 57 campuses into the Affordable Housing Programme to provide student hostels and villages, ensuring a conducive learning environment. Additional reforms include the recruitment of more lecturers, upgrading infrastructure, and equipping facilities to meet evolving healthcare needs.
Equity in access to health training remains central to KMTC’s mission. Admissions are handled through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to guarantee fairness, while financial assistance through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) ensures opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
KMTC’s role in building a strong health workforce is vital to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and advancing the Taifa Care Model. Students are encouraged to embrace diligence, empathy, and innovation as they undertake their training, preparing to serve communities across the country and beyond.
Looking ahead, the KMTC Board and management are exploring further expansion of training facilities and procurement of additional vehicles to strengthen outreach and service delivery. This commitment underlines the institution’s strategic role in producing skilled health workers who are critical in addressing current and future health challenges.
