The Ministry of Health (MoH) and Lions International District 411A have strengthened their partnership to improve eye and oral health services across Kenya. This strategic engagement, held on November 3, 2025, at Afya House in Nairobi, outlined a collaborative approach to enhance public health services nationwide, particularly in underserved communities.
The meeting, led by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga and District Governor Amb. Simon Njoroge, focused on creating a structured framework to ensure the sustainability of joint health initiatives. These efforts will align with the country’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) objectives, aiming to ensure all Kenyans have access to essential health services without financial hardship.
Both parties emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to reach remote and marginalized populations. Dr. Oluga commended Lions International for its longstanding support of Kenya’s health sector and highlighted the critical role of strategic partnerships in improving service delivery. Lions International’s commitment to community-based health programs was underscored, as it continues to play a key role in supporting local initiatives that address eye and oral health needs.
The collaboration aims to streamline the delivery of eye care services, including screenings, treatments, and preventive measures, as well as oral health services to combat widespread dental issues. These initiatives are designed to reduce the burden of preventable eye and oral diseases, which are significant contributors to poor health outcomes in Kenya.
In addition to providing healthcare access, the partnership seeks to build awareness among the public about the importance of eye and oral health, encouraging preventive care and early intervention. Both organizations plan to work together on campaigns, outreach programs, and health education initiatives that will benefit communities nationwide.
As part of the agreement, MoH and Lions International will enhance coordination and efficiency in implementing these programs, ensuring long-term impact and sustainability. By leveraging their combined resources, expertise, and local knowledge, the partnership is poised to play a pivotal role in achieving UHC goals and improving health equity across Kenya.
