In an important step toward enhancing maternal and newborn health outcomes, the Ministry of Health has embarked on the validation of campaign messages under the PROMPTS initiative an innovative, AI-enabled digital health platform. This platform aims to provide new and expectant mothers with timely, stage-appropriate information through SMS, helping to ensure they receive crucial support throughout pregnancy and after childbirth.
The validation workshop for the PROMPTS antenatal care (ANC) and postnatal care (PNC) messages was officially opened this week by senior leadership within the Ministry. The event brought together healthcare professionals, content developers, and maternal health advocates to critically review and refine the educational messages intended for dissemination through the platform.
The PROMPTS platform is designed with a deep understanding of the challenges that mothers face in accessing reliable health information, especially in underserved communities. By using mobile technology, the platform bridges gaps in communication between healthcare providers and patients, delivering lifesaving advice and reminders directly to women’s phones. This innovation is part of a broader effort to leverage digital solutions in improving healthcare delivery and outcomes across the country.
During the workshop, officials stressed the importance of making the content both accessible and relatable. It was highlighted that messages must align with the lived realities of mothers, taking into account varying levels of education, cultural context, and access to care. Ensuring that messages are clear, empathetic, and informative is central to the campaign’s success.
Special attention was also given to the involvement of young people in the content development process. Their perspectives and lived experiences were acknowledged as vital to creating messages that resonate with younger mothers, who make up a significant portion of the maternal population. Involving youth in health innovation not only improves content relevance but also encourages broader community engagement and trust.
Additionally, participants discussed the importance of ongoing evaluation and updates to the campaign messages. As health needs and communication technologies evolve, the content must remain current, evidence-based, and responsive to user feedback. This iterative approach ensures that PROMPTS continues to meet its goal of supporting mothers effectively throughout the continuum of maternal care.
The workshop marked a key milestone in the integration of digital health solutions into national health strategies. With continued collaboration and support from partners, the Ministry of Health aims to scale up the PROMPTS platform to reach more women across the country, helping reduce maternal and neonatal risks through informed, proactive care.
