A grieving family in Mombasa is demanding answers after the sudden and tragic death of 23-year-old Faith Anindo, a pregnant mother who died following an alleged injection at Coast General Hospital, Utange Branch. Faith, who was reportedly healthy except for a minor skin rash, had visited the hospital on Monday, May 12, for a routine check-up related to her pregnancy. What was expected to be a straightforward medical visit quickly turned into a devastating incident that has left her family distraught and searching for the truth.
According to family members, the ordeal began after Faith was given an injection whose nature remains unclear. Almost immediately after receiving the injection, Faith’s condition worsened dramatically her eyes turned yellow, and her body began to swell alarmingly. Her husband, Lawrence Wekesa, described a horrifying reaction where the injection caused severe burns on her legs, leading to painful wounds that required dressing. Despite treatment attempts, the burns worsened, prompting serious concern about the quality of care she was receiving.
The family’s frustration has been compounded by what they describe as a lack of transparency from the hospital. Faith’s friend, Benta, alleges that two crucial pages were missing from Faith’s clinic booklet, pages which contained a summary of the treatment administered. The disappearance of these documents has raised suspicions of potential concealment of information by hospital staff. “If there is nothing to hide, why were those pages cut out?” Benta questioned, highlighting the family’s doubts about the hospital’s honesty.
Wekesa has also raised serious questions about the hospital’s decision-making, particularly the administration of an injection without clear information about what it was or why it was given, especially to a pregnant woman. He expressed disbelief that his wife would receive an injection with no explanation or apparent medical justification, indicating a possible breach of medical protocol.
The family made the difficult decision to take Faith out of the hospital due to what they described as neglect and poor care. This move, however, was met with criticism from Mombasa County Government officials, who argued that discharging Faith prematurely contributed to her death. Wekesa, however, maintains that the hospital failed to care for his wife adequately and that if she had been properly attended to, she might still be alive.
In response to the serious allegations and the family’s outcry, the Mombasa County Government has launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding Faith Anindo’s death. The family continues to seek justice and clarity on what led to the tragic loss of a young mother and expectant life, hoping that accountability will be enforced and lessons learned to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
