Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi has demanded answers from Siaya Governor James Orengo after the dismissal of 385 health workers.
Atandi described the move as a looming employment scandal. He accused senior county officials of corruption and mismanagement in the recruitment process.
He challenged Governor Orengo to act.
“We want to see the governor take action. We want to see heads roll. We want to see the DCI invited to begin investigations,” Atandi said.
The MP claimed some workers paid money to secure jobs. They received letters, worked for eight months, but were later told they were not eligible to work in Siaya.
County Explains Dismissals
The county government said the sackings were due to forged documents. On September 12, County Public Service Board CEO Wilfred Nyagudi announced the mass firing.
He explained that officials had found inconsistencies in reference and deployment letters.
“Any letter we issue must be signed by the chief of health. Some workers had deployment letters dated earlier than their appointment,” Nyagudi said.
During a meeting with staff, only 120 health workers were confirmed as legitimate employees. The rest were told not to report back to work. Their salaries remain unresolved.
Growing Pressure on Orengo
The timing of the termination has raised concerns. Many are questioning why the workers were fired after serving for eight months.
Governor Orengo has not issued an official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, the dismissed workers are demanding justice.
The scandal has put pressure on the county boss to respond. Public trust in the county’s health sector is now at risk unless action is taken quickly.
