The Principal Secretary for Medical Services recently hosted a high-level consultative meeting with the Governor of Isiolo County to align on key health priorities and chart a path forward for improved service delivery. The engagement, held at Afya House, brought together senior leadership from both the national Ministry of Health and the Isiolo County Government to address gaps and opportunities in the region’s healthcare system.
Central to the discussions was the shared goal of enhancing access to quality healthcare services for the people of Isiolo County. The meeting focused on building stronger partnerships between the national and county governments to support the expansion of health infrastructure, improve service delivery systems, and address long-standing challenges that have affected healthcare outcomes in the semi-arid region.
The Governor was accompanied by key members of the county’s health leadership, including the County Secretary, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services, and the Chief Officer for Medical Services. Their participation underscored the county’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to health-related issues through a coordinated and inclusive approach.
On the national side, the State Department for Medical Services was represented by senior officials who reaffirmed the government’s readiness to support counties in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and ensuring equitable health services across the country.
Several strategic areas were identified for immediate and long-term collaboration. These include upgrading health facilities, addressing human resource gaps, increasing availability of essential medicines, improving referral systems, and investing in community health services. The meeting also emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making and enhancing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track progress effectively.
Both parties acknowledged the need for continuous engagement and technical support to align national policies with local needs. The PS highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing reforms and how counties like Isiolo stand to benefit from targeted investments and capacity-building initiatives.
The engagement marks a significant step in fostering mutual accountability and shared responsibility between different levels of government. It also reflects a broader national effort to bring healthcare closer to the people through tailored interventions that meet specific regional needs.
The discussions are expected to culminate in joint action plans that will accelerate health sector development in Isiolo and contribute to improved well-being for its residents.
