The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, recently held a high-level consultative meeting with the Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) aimed at enhancing collaboration on national and global health priorities. The meeting marked a renewed commitment to align strategies and resources to accelerate progress toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and other critical health goals.
At the center of the discussions were Kenya’s strategic commitments under international health financing mechanisms, including the Global Fund, Gavi, and the Global Financing Facility (GFF). The engagement underscored the need to strengthen domestic resource mobilization to ensure the sustainability of health programs, especially those targeting vulnerable populations.

Key agenda items included enhancing community involvement in health service delivery, addressing health inequities, and building resilience within the health system. The meeting also explored ways to deepen collaboration in pandemic preparedness and response, drawing from recent experiences during global health emergencies. Emphasis was placed on aligning local health priorities with global health frameworks to ensure that Kenya remains on track in achieving its obligations under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mary Muthoni reiterated the Ministry of Health’s unwavering dedication to working with key stakeholders and civil society organizations like KANCO. She noted that strategic partnerships play a vital role in implementing inclusive and effective health policies. According to the Principal Secretary, community-led interventions and grassroots participation are essential pillars in achieving equitable healthcare for all.
KANCO reaffirmed its support in mobilizing community voices, shaping health policies, and strengthening accountability in the implementation of donor-funded and government-supported programs. Both parties committed to continued dialogue and collaboration to ensure that investments in healthcare are optimized for maximum impact.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding that achieving UHC in Kenya requires sustained efforts across government and civil society. By fostering strong partnerships, Kenya can address persistent challenges in healthcare access and delivery, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of quality and affordable health services.
