President William Ruto has called on Kenyans who are yet to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) to do so immediately, emphasizing that the process is crucial for the government’s efforts to deliver efficient healthcare services across the country.
Speaking on Monday during the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme event in Nakuru County, Ruto expressed concern over the slow pace of registration by some citizens.
“Those who have not registered for SHA, are you waiting for Jesus to return, or who exactly are you waiting for?” the President asked, drawing laughter from the crowd.
He explained that SHA registration allows the government to effectively plan and allocate health resources, including drugs, medical equipment, and personnel, to facilities nationwide.
“The government wants to know how many people are registered at each health centre so that we can plan for the quantity of drugs needed, the medical equipment required, and the number of health workers to deploy,” Ruto said.
The President applauded Nakuru County residents for their exemplary response, noting that nearly 950,000 people—almost one million—have already registered under the new health scheme. He described this as a sign of growing public confidence and awareness about the benefits of the Social Health Authority.
Ruto reminded Kenyans that registration for SHA is free of charge, urging everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to secure their access to quality healthcare.
“The government has made it simple and free. All you need is your ID. Don’t wait until it’s too late—register today,” he emphasized.
The Social Health Authority replaces the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and aims to expand universal health coverage by ensuring that every Kenyan has access to affordable and comprehensive medical services.
