The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced 64 senior management vacancies in an effort to enhance its institutional capacity and improve service delivery. This recruitment drive follows the recent appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, as part of the authority’s broader leadership restructuring.
According to a gazette notice released on July 28, 2025, the SHA Board is seeking visionary, results-driven, and experienced professionals to fill the advertised positions. The authority emphasized that the recruitment is part of a strategy to strengthen leadership and fulfill its mandate more effectively.
Interested applicants are required to comply with the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution, which focuses on leadership and integrity. All applications must be submitted by 5.00 pm on August 19, 2025. Candidates are encouraged to visit the official SHA recruitment portal to view detailed job descriptions, core functions, and specific requirements for each role.
Applications can be submitted online through the SHA website or physically delivered to the SHA building located in Upper Hill, Nairobi. The authority reiterated its commitment to fairness and merit-based recruitment, warning that any form of canvassing would lead to automatic disqualification. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further steps.
This development comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize SHA’s leadership structure and operations. Since replacing the now-defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), SHA has encountered a series of internal challenges. These were highlighted in late 2024 when the then-acting CEO was placed on compulsory leave pending investigations into his professional conduct and performance.
The appointment of Dr. Mercy Mwangangi was a strategic move aimed at restoring credibility and boosting the efficiency of the institution. However, despite these changes, SHA continues to face criticism from the public over the quality and accessibility of services under the new health cover.
The current recruitment is seen as a critical step towards reshaping the institution’s performance, with the hope that a strengthened leadership team will help SHA meet public expectations and deliver on its health care mandate across the country.
