Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili, popularly known as Babu Owino, has officially been admitted to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya. The milestone, achieved on May 23, 2025, marks a significant personal and professional achievement for the legislator, who was among 609 lawyers sworn in during a prestigious ceremony held at the Supreme Court of Kenya.
The admission ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome, who welcomed the new advocates to the Bar with a message of encouragement. “Welcome to the Bar new advocates being sworn in today! Congratulations to your parents, guardians, and teachers. Go forth and serve with excellence,” the Judiciary shared on its official channels.
For Babu Owino, the moment was not only a legal milestone but a deeply emotional one. “Today marks a historic chapter in my journey my admission to the bar as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya,” he said.
Babu’s journey in education has been both inspirational and symbolic. Originally graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Actuarial Science, he went on to pursue multiple academic qualifications, each representing a tribute to a member of his family. Coming from a humble background where education was a rare opportunity, his family made a collective decision that Babu would be the one to attend school.
He has since earned four degrees: a Bachelor’s in Actuarial Science for his mother, a Master’s in Architectural Science for his sister, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) for his brother, and a Master of Laws (LLM) for himself.
“I wanted to do a degree for everybody in that house,” Babu said. “We were told that education is the key to success, so I asked myself why not have many keys to success?”
As he now steps into the legal profession, Babu Owino’s story stands as a powerful testament to the value of education, perseverance, and the sacrifices families make to uplift one of their own. His entry into the legal fraternity is expected to bring a new dynamic to his political and public service journey.
