Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has revealed that Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro may soon join the emerging Kenya Moja movement, a new political alliance that is being framed as a “Third Force” in Kenya’s shifting political landscape.
Speaking on Monday alongside Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Owino disclosed that discussions were already underway with Nyoro, who has recently faced turbulence within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). “I have been speaking to Ndindi Nyoro. And he will soon be part of this movement. More importantly, Kenyans will be part of this movement,” Owino said.
The Kenya Moja banner is being championed by a group of youthful and outspoken leaders from across the political divide who have grown increasingly critical of the Kenya Kwanza government. The leaders, branded as political “rebels,” are drawn from both UDA and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), despite their parties being part of formal cooperation agreements.
According to Amisi, the movement’s motivation is generational, pitting youthful leaders against political “godfathers” who, they argue, are no longer responsive to the needs of ordinary Kenyans. “This is a struggle of change between the old and the new,” Amisi explained.
The group initially gained visibility during the anti-government protests of June and July 2025, when several legislators spoke against rising frustrations among Kenyans, particularly the younger population. Owino dismissed suggestions that their activities amount to rebellion against ODM, saying, “We are working within the principles of democracy, and the D in ODM stands for Democracy. Therefore, it is not really rebelling.”
Amisi noted that members of the movement have faced threats from their political establishments but insisted they are determined to pursue their agenda. While a political party is not immediately planned, he hinted that such a move could be inevitable if circumstances demand.
Nyoro’s potential involvement marks a dramatic turn in his political journey. Once a close ally of President William Ruto, Nyoro’s influence in UDA has waned, culminating in the loss of his powerful position as Budget and Appropriations Committee chair. His silence on the matter has fueled speculation about his next political steps.
Other leaders, including Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, have also been spotted with ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, signaling widening cracks within traditional political camps.
