Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino created a stir at Parliament Buildings on Thursday morning as he climbed the perimeter wall to address thousands of mourners awaiting a glimpse of the late Raila Amolo Odinga’s body.
Crowds began arriving as early as 4:00 am, filling the area around Parliament. The overwhelming turnout prompted National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and other MPs to calm the situation. Taking matters into his own hands, Owino informed the public of a change in the venue for the viewing.
The public viewing of the former Prime Minister’s body has been moved from Parliament Buildings to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) announced the shift in an official statement, citing the need to ensure safety and comfort for thousands of mourners streaming into Nairobi from across the country.
Kasarani Stadium, known for hosting major state and national events, offers a larger and more secure venue for the occasion. The UDA advised the public to proceed to Kasarani and cooperate with police and security officers. Heavy traffic is expected along Thika Road and connecting routes, and drivers are urged to plan accordingly.
The move to Kasarani ensures that Kenyans can pay their final respects to Raila Odinga in a safer and more organized environment, as thousands continue to arrive in the capital to mourn the late political leader.
