Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has thrown his weight behind Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential bid, while also rallying Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to continue his sharp criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking on Friday, August 15, during the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Annual Conference in Diani, Kwale County, Owino praised Kalonzo for his resolve to vie for the top seat. In a bold declaration, the youthful legislator encouraged the former Vice President to pursue his political ambitions with confidence.
“Unto excellency Kalonzo Musyoka, go ye and conquer the nations,” Babu stated, signaling a potential shift of loyalty from ODM leader Raila Odinga to the Wiper Democratic Movement boss.
Kalonzo, who has recently been engaging with ODM leaders perceived as dissenters, has sought to strengthen his networks ahead of 2027. On Monday, during the same LSK conference, he held talks with ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The Wiper leader hinted that the meeting could pave the way for new political alliances.
“Had a productive chat with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in Kwale this afternoon. Exchanged numbers – I have a feeling this connection could lead to some exciting things,” Kalonzo said after their engagement.
At the forum, Owino also commended Sifuna for consistently challenging the Ruto government, urging him to persist despite criticism from within ODM ranks.
“To my super-senator, Edwin Sifuna, continue injecting with the sealant and the needle of a camel,” Babu remarked in his characteristic metaphorical style.
Sifuna has remained vocal against the broad-based government arrangement between Raila and Ruto, arguing that it betrays the initial spirit of their political pact. He has repeatedly warned ODM that the partnership risks backfiring as a public relations nightmare.
Babu, while reiterating his support for Sifuna’s stand, also sent a pointed message to President Ruto: “To the President of the Republic of Kenya, you must respect the Constitution.”
With Kalonzo positioning himself as a key contender in 2027, and leaders like Owino and Sifuna signaling possible realignments, the political landscape appears to be shifting ahead of the next general election.
