Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has responded to criticism from Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, who accused him of taking credit for road projects carried out by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
Speaking on Wednesday, October 29, Babu dismissed Amisi’s claims, questioning why the national government would single out his constituency for development and ignore others, including Amisi’s Saboti.
“I also thought that Caleb Amisi was my friend, but anyway, it is another bitter soul detected,” Babu remarked, suggesting that his colleague’s comments stemmed from jealousy over Embakasi East’s progress.
Babu argued that if the national government were indeed constructing roads in Embakasi East, similar developments would be visible in other constituencies. “Any project the national government does is always posted. There are no such projects by the government in my constituency,” he clarified.
He further questioned why a government whose policies he frequently opposes would undertake developments in his area, insisting that all ongoing projects were locally initiated and funded.
Babu advised Amisi to focus on serving his constituents instead of engaging in unnecessary criticism. “Be better, not bitter,” he told his fellow MP.
Amisi, during an interview on Obinna TV on Monday, October 27, alleged that all road projects in Nairobi are managed by KURA and not individual MPs. He claimed that Babu merely takes photos of ongoing works and posts them online for publicity.
“In my constituency, a road from Shanti to Matisi is being constructed, but I don’t post about it or brag. That would be dishonest,” Amisi said.
Both Babu and Amisi are members of the emerging Kenya Mpya Movement, which includes leaders such as Edwin Sifuna and Gathoni Wamuchomba. Despite their political alliance, the exchange highlights emerging tensions within the group.
