Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has reaffirmed his ambition to become Nairobi’s next governor, declaring that he will still run for the seat in 2027 even if the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party gives the ticket to current governor Johnson Sakaja.
Speaking during a radio interview on Monday, October 13, 2025, Owino expressed confidence in his political journey, saying that divine destiny, not party politics, will determine his success.
“I know that Sakaja will be given the ticket for ODM, and I know how much I’m hated in our own house, but that will not prevent me from chasing my dreams,” he said.
The youthful MP described his political rise as part of a divine plan, tracing his humble beginnings from Nyalenda slums to Parliament.
“God knows why he removed me from the village to Nyalenda slums, from Nyalenda slums to Nairobi, from Nairobi to Parliament,” Owino stated.
He emphasized that while ODM’s nomination process remains an internal affair, his focus lies on faith and grassroots connection rather than party favour.
“The ticket might go. But our ticket is in the hands of God,” he affirmed.
Owino avoided revealing his campaign strategy, noting that “enemies also listen,” but maintained that perseverance and faith will carry him to City Hall.
“I know my journey and I know how I’m going to reach where I’m going by the grace of God,” he added.
The outspoken MP’s remarks come amid growing tension within ODM over succession politics and candidate preferences for the 2027 elections.
Despite claims of internal hostility, Owino remains undeterred, declaring that leadership is ultimately decided by the people—and by God.
As political alignments start taking shape ahead of 2027, Babu Owino’s defiant stand sets the stage for a potentially heated battle for the Nairobi governorship.
