Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has confidently predicted that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino will clinch the Nairobi governorship in the 2027 General Election. Speaking during an interview with radio presenter Alex Mwakideu, Jalang’o expressed his strong belief that Babu has a clear path to City Hall, especially if he secures the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
“If Babu Owino is given the ODM ticket, he will be the Nairobi governor. If he is not given, he will cause a lot of trouble for the other candidates,” Jalang’o remarked, highlighting the MP’s political strength and influence.
Jalang’o, who was expelled from ODM last year for associating with the Kenya Kwanza government but insists he remains loyal to the party, further added, “I am preparing you for Babu Owino’s leadership as Nairobi governor. I know he is coming to serve one term, and after that, he will hand it over to me as he moves higher.”
He also issued a cautionary note to the ODM leadership on the dangers of intra-party competition. According to Jalang’o, having multiple strong candidates such as Babu Owino, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi could split the party’s support base and hand the seat to a Mount Kenya candidate.
“Politics, at a certain level, is tribal. If Edwin Sifuna, Tim Wanyonyi, and Babu Owino all run, they will cancel each other out. They need to sit down and agree on one candidate, or else the votes will be divided and a Mount Kenya candidate will win,” he warned.
Jalang’o emphasized that his views stem from strategic reasoning rather than personal preference for any candidate, adding, “All three are strong because of Raila Odinga’s support, but they can’t go into the race together.”
In response, Babu Owino shared a video of Jalang’o’s remarks on his social media pages, accompanying it with a bold declaration: “All our opponents are unworthy,” signaling his readiness for the 2027 political battle.
