Bondo ACK Bishop David Kodia has hailed the late ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga as a man of integrity who led with humility and moral conviction. Speaking during Raila’s State Funeral at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, October 17, 2025, Bishop Kodia praised Raila for his people-centred leadership and condemned leaders who rely on money to manipulate citizens.
Without mentioning names, the bishop criticised a section of corrupt politicians who, he said, have entrenched the culture of handouts in Kenyan politics.
“Baba never used the power of money to intimidate people. Today, we have bad manners among our politicians. They have taught our people the culture of handouts,” said Bishop Kodia, drawing applause from mourners.
He lamented that Kenya was slowly losing its moral compass as some leaders prioritise wealth and personal gain over service to the nation. The bishop urged the political class to emulate Raila’s humility, honesty, and lifelong commitment to justice and unity.
Bishop Kodia also issued a stern warning to corrupt officials, declaring that those who have looted public resources will not escape condemnation.
“If there’s anyone here at whatever level who has looted this country, you stand the chance to be condemned,” he said, as the crowd cheered in agreement.
The cleric further praised Raila’s ability to unite Kenyans across ethnic and regional divides.
“God gave Raila Odinga the wisdom to unite Kenyans. How many can fit in his shoes? Kenya is too small to be divided into regions,” he said.
Bishop Kodia urged Kenyans to honour Raila’s legacy by upholding honesty, patriotism, and inclusivity.
The State Funeral, attended by thousands of Kenyans and several African leaders, underscored Raila Odinga’s enduring influence as a reformer and a unifier who shaped Kenya’s democratic journey.
