Blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, who was reported missing last week, has contacted his family to confirm that he is alive and in good health. In a statement issued Thursday morning, the family’s lawyer, Wahome Thuku, said Kinyagia reached out to a family member on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location.
According to the lawyer, the popular blogger went into hiding after learning that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were searching for him over unspecified criminal allegations. Out of fear for his life, he chose to stay in a safe location until he could confirm his safety.
“Mr. Ndiang’ui indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations,” said Thuku.
Kinyagia has since expressed his willingness to cooperate with authorities and present himself to the DCI, but only after assurances of his safety are provided. His legal team has arranged for him to appear before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11 a.m.
The Law Society of Kenya has also been informed and is expected to participate in the legal proceedings to ensure due process is followed.
The lawyer also recounted events that unfolded following Kinyagia’s disappearance, including a raid on his residence by DCI officers. According to Thuku, the officers broke into Kinyagia’s house while he was away and seized several items. The family later reported the incident at Kinoo Police Station.
“We wish to remind the public that the DCI broke into his house in his absence and carried away several items,” Thuku noted.
The family has expressed deep gratitude to Kenyans both locally and abroad for their support and concern during the troubling period. “It’s our hope and prayer that justice will prevail in this matter,” the statement concluded.
As Kinyagia prepares to face the court, many await clarity on the allegations he faces and hope for a fair and transparent legal process.
