Residents of Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, have been left in shock and anger after a boda boda rider allegedly murdered his Form 2 girlfriend in a tragic incident. The suspect is reported to have picked up the schoolgirl from her mixed secondary school before taking her to a lodging where the crime occurred.
According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi, the boda boda rider later called the local chief and confessed to the killing. “The suspect later called the local chief and informed him that he had killed his girlfriend,” said Mwanthi. Following the call, the man voluntarily walked to a nearby police station and reported the crime.
Authorities, accompanied by the local chief, rushed to the lodging at Gem Farm, where they discovered the lifeless body of the student covered with a blanket. Mwanthi indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the girl may have been strangled after a quarrel, though the exact cause of the conflict remains unknown.
“The suspect has been arrested and locked up as we launch further investigations into the matter,” Mwanthi confirmed. Police officers are currently interrogating the suspect to establish the motive behind the gruesome act before proceeding with legal action.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage among Eldoret residents, who have strongly condemned the killing of the young girl. Community members have called for justice, demanding that the suspect face the full force of the law.
Mwanthi urged parents to be vigilant about the whereabouts of their children, particularly those attending day schools. “As parents, we have to be keen about the safety of our children both in and out of school,” he advised.
The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served.
The murder of the young girl highlights the need for greater awareness and measures to protect students from harm, emphasizing the importance of parental supervision and community vigilance in ensuring the safety of school-going children.
