ODM national treasurer and former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire has moved to dispel growing speculation about his political future, insisting he remains firmly anchored in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) despite whispers of a looming defection.
Speaking in response to mounting claims that he is quietly assembling a new political vehicle ahead of the 2027 elections, Bosire dismissed the reports as “political mischief” aimed at destabilising ODM’s support base. The rumours intensified after he hosted over 700 delegates from the Gusii region in Kericho last week, with some alleging the meeting marked the beginning of plans to launch a new party.
Bosire, however, clarified that he still holds significant roles in the Orange party. “I am the chairman of the Board of Trustees. I have been the national treasurer for 12 years now. I have a wonderful relationship with the top leadership,” he said, stressing his loyalty to Raila Odinga and the party’s reform agenda.
The speculation was further fuelled earlier this year when Bosire declined President William Ruto’s appointment as the non-executive chair of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) board. Some viewed the move as a signal of political repositioning amid ODM’s strained relationship with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
His remarks come at a time when ODM is under pressure from within, with youthful leaders such as Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino openly exploring the idea of a new political formation. This has raised concerns about potential fragmentation ahead of 2027.
Bosire urged ODM supporters to stay united and focus on strengthening the party through ongoing grassroots elections. “We are the most organised party in the country today, save for the small issues which must be there normally because this is a big thing,” he said.
Even as he dismissed the speculation, sources close to Bosire hinted that it may only be a matter of time before he charts his own course, with the possible launch of a new political outfit reportedly slated for October. For now, Bosire maintains ODM remains his political home.
