Leaders from Kenya’s Coast region have declared their unwavering support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election, citing his development record and commitment to uplifting the region. The endorsement came during the funeral of Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro, the father of Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro.
The leaders praised Ruto’s administration for initiating people-centered projects, including investments in infrastructure, electrification, and land reforms. Senate Speaker Amason Kingi lauded the President’s focus on ordinary Kenyans, warning fellow Coast leaders against political betrayal.
“The kind of programmes President Ruto has introduced are touching the hearts of ordinary citizens. Let us not abandon what is working just for short-term political gains,” Kingi urged.
Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Joho, affirmed the region’s solidarity with the President. “We are united. Coast region is firmly behind President Ruto. We are planning for our future, including one day producing a president from the region,” Joho said.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya condemned recent protests and accused some politicians of misleading the youth. “Some leaders are using young people for chaos. But these politicians have already secured their futures. The youth must not be used as pawns,” he warned.
Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro emphasized the region’s development priorities, while MPs Owen Baya (Kilifi North) and Kenneth Chonga (Kilifi South) expressed their continued political allegiance to the President.
“If there is a president who has stood with the people of Kilifi, it is William Ruto. We are not leaving his side in 2027,” Baya declared.
Chonga added, “We are not fighting the President. Politics have begun, but as Coast leaders, we remain peaceful and focused.”
In his address, President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transforming the Coast region, pledging further support in land reforms, electrification, and socio-economic development.
The public show of unity signals a strategic political realignment in the Coast region ahead of the next election, with Ruto gaining growing support in areas previously seen as opposition strongholds.
