Controversial political figure and former US-based UDA activist Ombori Monari, popularly known as Cosmo Choy, made a dramatic return to the public eye on Thursday, May 22, 2025, as he joined a Kenya Kwanza delegation in Kisii County. The delegation, led by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, was in South Mugirango Constituency for an economic empowerment programme.
Choy, known for his bold rhetoric and vocal support of President William Ruto, shared the podium with key government allies, including Ruto’s close confidant Farouk Kibet and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, who also serves as the National Assembly Majority Whip.
In a moment that drew cheers and laughter from the crowd, DP Kindiki introduced Choy as his “longtime friend,” handing him the microphone for an impromptu speech. True to form, Choy delivered a humorous and animated address, reminding the audience of his close ties to President Ruto during the latter’s tenure as Deputy President.
“Many said Ruto would never set foot in America, but he came and I was there to welcome him,” Choy said, prompting hearty laughter from the audience.
He went on to praise Kindiki, calling him his “best friend” who always picks up his calls. “We love each other like brothers born of the same mother, Priscilla,” he said, as Kindiki laughed beside him.
Choy, who is eyeing the Embakasi East parliamentary seat, donated Sh25,000 to the empowerment cause, declaring his commitment to grassroots support.
This appearance comes weeks after Choy lamented being sidelined by government insiders. However, he has since reaffirmed his loyalty to the Kenya Kwanza administration and voiced strong support for President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027 and Kindiki’s potential succession in 2032.
Notably, Choy has also launched stinging criticisms against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, declaring him unfit for the presidency a stance that has further fueled speculation about internal rifts within the ruling coalition.
Choy’s return to the political stage adds a fiery personality to Kenya Kwanza’s grassroots mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
