The Milimani Magistrate’s Court has released four suspects accused of involvement in the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi on bail. Magistrate Carolyne Nyaguthii ruled that each of the suspects be released on a bond of Sh1 million with a surety of a similar amount, or alternatively, a cash bail of Sh300,000.
The suspects Peter Kiratu, David Macharia Gatana, Cyrus Kieru Muhia, and Grace Nduta Wairimu were arrested following an incident on May 25, 2025, in which Koimburi was reported missing shortly after attending a church service at Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha area. Videos circulated online showed him being forced into a Subaru Forester by unknown individuals, prompting public outcry and concern from political leaders.
In her ruling, Magistrate Nyaguthii noted the gravity of the allegations but acknowledged that the court had considered the arguments presented by both the prosecution and defence. “The court cannot ignore the fact that the likely charges facing the respondents are serious, and there is a need to ensure that the investigations are not jeopardised,” she said.
To protect the integrity of the investigation, the court imposed strict pre-charge conditions. The accused were barred from contacting any witnesses, directly or indirectly, including through third parties. They must also report to investigating officer Nicholas Njoroge weekly or as summoned until further notice.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had initially requested that the suspects be held for 15 days, citing the need to obtain Koimburi’s medical report from Karen Hospital, secure a formal statement from him, and track down additional suspects believed to be involved in the abduction.
Police told the court that Koimburi remains hospitalised and is yet to record a formal statement. The prosecution expressed concerns that releasing the suspects might hinder the ongoing investigation.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals potentially linked to the abduction. The matter is expected to return to court in the coming weeks as the probe progresses.
