A Milimani Law Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi after he failed to appear in court for plea-taking in a case where he faces charges of conspiracy to defeat justice. The court also issued arrest warrants for two other accused persons identified only as Peter (the sixth accused) and Njuguna alias Njugush (the seventh accused) who similarly failed to attend the session.
Koimburi and his co-accused are alleged to have conspired to stage-manage the MP’s abduction to prevent his arrest and arraignment over land fraud charges filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The prosecution alleges the group acted in concert to obstruct justice and mislead investigators.
Five other accused persons, including Juja Constituency Development Fund Chairperson Peter Kiratu Muhia and Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, were present in court and pleaded not guilty. The court maintained their existing cash bail terms of KSh300,000 and ordered that each provide three contact persons to be vetted in court.
Defence lawyers requested that existing bail conditions be upheld and called for the release of mobile phones and vehicles confiscated during the arrests. However, state prosecutor Owiti opposed the release of the seized items, arguing they are key to the ongoing investigations.
In addition to the conspiracy charges, MP Koimburi faces a separate count under Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act for publishing false information. This charge stems from a press statement he issued via a YouTube channel on June 7, 2025, while at Karen Hospital, where he claimed to have been abducted and tortured by unknown individuals — allegations the prosecution asserts were false and aimed at inciting public panic.
Kiratu also faces an additional charge of providing false information to a police officer, having reported that Koimburi had been abducted after attending a church service.
The case is set for mention on August 5, 2025, for further directions.
