Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has launched a scathing attack on the Opposition, accusing its leaders of promoting ethnic division while failing to offer practical solutions to Kenya’s socio-economic challenges.
Speaking on Thursday during a government relief distribution exercise in Mwakirunge, Kisauni, Mombasa County, Ruku said the Opposition was relying on tribal rhetoric to stay politically relevant after failing to deliver during their time in leadership.
“They had their time in power and failed the people. Now they hide behind tribal alliances instead of offering real solutions. Kenyans want development, not division,” said Ruku.
The CS was overseeing the distribution of food and essential supplies to vulnerable mothers and children under the Huduma Smart Serikalini initiative, led by the State Department for Special Programmes. The event was hosted by Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohammed and Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba.
Ruku highlighted the Kenya Kwanza administration’s commitment to inclusive development, citing ongoing infrastructure upgrades and new initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized communities such as those in the Coast region.
“This is the embodiment of a government that listens, responds, and restores hope. We are combining immediate relief with long-term empowerment — linking food aid today with skills training and economic inclusion for tomorrow,” he stated.
Residents welcomed the outreach, praising it as a sign that the government recognizes their struggles. “For a long time, we felt forgotten. Today, we have seen that the government knows our struggle and cares,” said a local resident.
Ruku emphasized that Huduma Smart Serikalini is transforming public service delivery, anchoring it in compassion, efficiency, and constitutional values. “This is the new face of service: not just policy, but presence. Not just promises, but action,” he said.
He also addressed land issues in the region, pledging to collaborate with local leaders and the Ministry of Lands to find lasting solutions.
The Huduma Smart Serikalini initiative aims to enhance access to essential services and improve government visibility in underserved areas, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, and the food insecure.
