Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has issued a stern warning to Kenya’s political class and religious leaders against inciting the country’s youth along tribal and political lines.
Speaking on Sunday, Ruku emphasized that Kenya remains one unified nation and condemned attempts to divide the youth through ethnic or political agitation. “Those who are inciting the young people through tribal groupings and balkanization, Kenya is one nation, one people and one flag,” he stated.
Ruku expressed concern over sections of the clergy encouraging protests and demonstrations, warning that such actions could endanger the country’s unity and stability. “We cannot sit and look at our nation going to the dogs. If our country is destroyed, the church and all of us will have no country,” he said. “I get worried when I see a church and bishops saying let’s go there and protest. It can’t be like that.”
Despite his criticism, Ruku affirmed the government’s respect for the church and its leadership, urging bishops to play a more constructive role in promoting peace and dialogue. “We, the leaders of Kenya, have a lot of respect for the church. Our bishops, we have a responsibility to ensure everything that happens is solved amicably,” he noted.
The CS also reaffirmed President William Ruto’s dedication to addressing the nation’s pressing challenges. Ruku assured the public that the president is fully committed to transforming the lives of Kenyans and fulfilling the promises made during the campaign.
“I sit at the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya, and I know the commitment of the President. If you don’t believe it, I have been raised in church, and I can only tell the bishops the truth. The President of Kenya is committed 100% to solving the issues affecting the republic,” he declared.
Ruku’s remarks come amid growing youth discontent and recent protests over governance, economic hardships, and public accountability. His call underscores the delicate balance between civic engagement and national cohesion in a time of rising political tension.
