Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen on July 28, 2025, paid a courtesy call on Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, marking a significant highlight of his visit to the county for the 22nd edition of Jukwaa La Usalama, a grassroots security engagement initiative.
The meeting took place at the County Commissioner’s residence in Kitale before CS Murkomen held discussions with members of the public, local leaders, non-governmental organizations, and security personnel. The engagements aim to strengthen collaboration between national security agencies and local communities in enhancing peace and safety across counties.
CS Murkomen was accompanied by top security officials including Deputy Inspector General of Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, and Regional Administration Police Commander John Amadadi. The delegation also visited the ACC Central Division in Saboti Sub-County to inspect the provision of government registration services.
Governor Natembeya’s reception of the CS comes just a week after he resumed duties at his main office in Kitale on July 21, following the expiry of a court-imposed ban that had barred him from accessing the premises for two months. The governor had been released on May 20 on a bond of Sh1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 over corruption-related charges.
During the restriction period, Natembeya operated from various sub-county offices, held public meetings, and oversaw county operations. He also toured several parts of Trans Nzoia County, insisting that he had nothing to hide and that his service to the people would remain uninterrupted.
“I am excited to be back and, as usual, let’s work hard to serve the people of Trans Nzoia,” Natembeya told staff who welcomed him back to his office.
The visit by CS Murkomen is seen as a move to foster continued cooperation between the national and county governments, especially in matters of security and service delivery, amid ongoing political and legal turbulence in the region.
