Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works, CS Kipchumba Murkomen, is set to visit Marsabit and Isiolo counties as part of a nationwide tour aimed at assessing the security situation and improving service delivery. This marks the 12th and 13th stops of his fact-finding mission, which has so far taken him across various regions to engage with local communities and government officials.
The primary objective of the tour is to strengthen governance structures, enhance security mechanisms, and ensure better service delivery to all citizens. The visit to Marsabit and Isiolo comes at a critical time, following his earlier engagements in Meru, Tharaka Nithi, and Embu counties, where issues such as the proliferation of illicit alcohol, land disputes, and border conflicts were identified as major concerns. In these counties, CS Murkomen led discussions that focused on addressing these pressing issues and exploring strategies for long-term solutions.
The upcoming meetings in Marsabit and Isiolo are expected to delve into significant security challenges affecting the region, particularly banditry, cattle rustling, and land disputes. Additionally, border security remains a priority, given the strategic importance of these counties in Kenya’s northern frontier. The CS will also take time to evaluate the delivery of key government services, including civil registration, which remains a vital aspect of governance and citizen empowerment.
CS Murkomen’s tour serves as a platform for direct engagement with key stakeholders, including National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), regional and county security committees, local political leaders, and the general public. These forums, known as Jukwaa la Usalama (Safety Forum), foster transparent dialogue and provide an opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns while working collaboratively towards actionable solutions.
With the ongoing consultations, the government aims to formulate policies that will improve security, governance, and public service delivery, ensuring a safer and more prosperous future for all Kenyans.
