Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programs Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has strongly criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of promoting division within the Mt Kenya region through “unfounded and divisive” remarks.
Speaking in Mbeere North during an education empowerment programme, Ruku dismissed Gachagua’s recent claims that Mt Kenya leaders lack credibility, describing them as “uncalled for and unbecoming of a person who once held the country’s second-highest office.”
“There is no single leader in Mt Kenya who lacks credibility. All our leaders have merit, substance, and serve their people diligently,” Ruku told residents at Cieria, Kìrie, Kabùbua, and Kanyuambora. He added that such statements were not expected from someone who claims to represent the region’s interests.
Ruku accused the former Deputy President of hypocrisy, saying Gachagua frequently associates with the same leaders he now disparages. “Let him not pretend to be the moral compass of the mountain. He walks and dines with leaders whose credibility is questionable, yet he dares to lecture others,” Ruku charged.
The CS further asserted that Mt Kenya already has a respected leadership structure under Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, whom he praised as a globally recognised scholar and a man of integrity.
“Prof. Kindiki is leading Mt Kenya leaders with distinction. The former Deputy President has no moral authority to question those who have worked tirelessly for their people,” Ruku stated.
He urged Gachagua to abandon divisive politics, emphasising that the region’s focus should remain on unity, development, and progress.
“The people of Mt Kenya will not entertain divisive politics anymore. We are focused on unity and growth—not empty rhetoric meant to divide us,” Ruku said.
During his Mbeere North tour, Ruku also rallied support for UDA candidate Leonard Wamuthende in the upcoming November 27 by-election, expressing confidence in the ruling coalition’s victory.
