Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has come out strongly against opposition leaders who have been criticising the Deputy President-led economic empowerment programmes, urging them to develop meaningful solutions for Kenyans instead of spreading propaganda.
Speaking in Kolowa, Tiaty Constituency, Ruku accused the opposition of being envious of the growing success of the economic empowerment forums spearheaded by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. He defended the initiatives, emphasizing their positive impact on women and youth groups across the country.
“For those who are jealous because of the way the empowerment programme is doing a good job for different women and youth groups across the Republic of Kenya, we are asking you to please go find an agenda which the people of Kenya can buy instead of preaching propaganda and hatred. Sit down and find a plan for Kenyans,” Ruku stated.
His remarks follow the circulation of a viral video featuring women who claimed to have been shortchanged after attending a DP-led event. Ruku dismissed such reports as orchestrated attempts to discredit government efforts, saying Kenyans are intelligent and can see through such political manoeuvres.
“You ask people to go on TV to discredit this programme. We have seen such kind of games in the past. They don’t sell, they don’t fly. The people of Kenya are clever. The empowerment programme is very well calculated, and it is led by a professor, not just anyone,” he added, referring to Deputy President Kindiki.
Ruku reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that the empowerment forums reach all regions of Kenya. He also highlighted broader development efforts under President William Ruto’s administration, including initiatives in health, education, and economic transformation.
While in Kolowa, the CS led a food and relief distribution exercise and emphasized the government’s commitment to drought mitigation in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) through infrastructure projects such as irrigation schemes, boreholes, and water pans.
Ruku was accompanied by local MPs William Kamket (Tiaty), Jematiah Sergon (Baringo CWR), and Titus Lotee (Kacheliba), as well as other community leaders, during the exercise.
