Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa recently accused Cabinet Secretary (CS) Najib Wahome, President William Ruto, and Wahome’s daughter of being involved in land grabbing in Ruiru.
Speaking at a political rally with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Thang’wa claimed that the CS colluded with her daughter and the President to force landowners to surrender title deeds.
CS Wahome Rejects Allegations
On Monday, September 15, CS Wahome strongly denied the claims. She described them as “false, malicious, and intended to tarnish my reputation.”
She said she would take legal action against the senator within 30 days for defamation.
“Karungo wa Thang’wa will meet me in court for scandalising me maliciously without any fact or any evidence,” Wahome said.
Background of the Land Case
CS Wahome presented land documents showing that the property had been tied up in litigation for years. She explained that buyers were aware of this and bought the land at a low price.
She added that the court ruled on July 10 that the land had been fraudulently sold without the consent of the rightful owners, the Kanyutu family. Wahome also said she had represented the family in one of the cases before joining the cabinet.
Clarifying Her Daughter’s Role
The CS denied that her daughter was involved in the matter. She said her daughter is a practicing lawyer who continues working at a law firm. Wahome emphasized that neither she nor her daughter owns land in Kiambu County.
“I am not involved in the ongoing court case and will not be intimidated by political attacks,” she said.
CS Wahome Vows Legal Action
The CS accused Thang’wa of politicizing the issue and misleading the public. She insisted that her reputation would be defended in court.
The case is likely to intensify political tensions in Kiambu County as the legal process unfolds.
