Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has issued a stern warning to Members of Parliament, cautioning them against using intimidation tactics in a bid to derail President William Ruto’s anti-corruption agenda.
Speaking in his Ugunja constituency, Wandayi dismissed threats to impeach the President as futile, noting that Ruto was simply discharging his constitutional duty by demanding accountability from all public servants, including legislators.
“The war against corruption will not be stopped by a few individuals who have been enriching themselves at the expense of the people. Such intimidation tactics must stop,” Wandayi declared.
The CS stressed that while some MPs played a role in President Ruto’s electoral victory, this did not give them a free pass to engage in corrupt dealings. He insisted that Kenyans fully support the President’s stance on graft and will rally behind him to ensure he serves his full term.
Wandayi also lauded the collaboration between President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga under the broad-based government, describing it as a formidable partnership capable of delivering results and securing victory in the 2027 general elections.
Kibra MP Peter Orero and Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch, who accompanied Wandayi, echoed ODM’s commitment to the inclusive government. Oluoch defended both Ruto and Odinga over their recent remarks on corruption, but urged them to target specific individuals implicated in graft rather than issuing general statements.
President Ruto has recently heightened the fight against economic crimes, formally establishing a powerful Multi-Agency Team (MAT) through Executive Order No. 1 of 2025. The taskforce is expected to spearhead the country’s anti-graft campaign by enhancing cooperation and coordination among institutions tasked with combating corruption, money laundering, and related crimes.
Ruto underscored that fighting corruption is a constitutional duty for both government agencies and citizens, calling for unity in the war against graft.
The establishment of the MAT signals his administration’s renewed commitment to tackling corruption, a challenge that has persistently undermined Kenya’s development.
With Wandayi’s strong backing and bipartisan support emerging, the President’s anti-corruption drive is shaping up to be one of the defining battles of his tenure.
