The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has dismissed circulating claims that it had fired its party leader, Eugene Wamalwa. A letter that recently went viral on social media alleged that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) convened an emergency meeting to remove Wamalwa and replace him with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya. The letter also claimed Ayub Savula would take over as Deputy Party Leader, with Seth Panyako acting as the new Secretary-General.
DAP-K quickly flagged the letter as fake and misleading, stating that no such NEC meeting took place and no resolutions were passed. The party described the document as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create internal confusion.
In a statement, DAP-K confirmed that its leadership structure remains intact. The party emphasized that any official communication regarding leadership changes would be issued through verified channels only. “The circulation of falsified documents is an attempt to destabilize the party ahead of key political activities,” the party said.
Governor George Natembeya, who was mentioned in the fake letter, also dismissed the claims. He alleged that pro-government politicians were behind the fabrication, aiming to interfere with the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-election. “This letter is being circulated by UDA members who already know we are on the verge of winning the Malava seat. It is a calculated attempt to create confusion and distract our people. Ignore it in its entirety,” Natembeya said.
He urged party supporters to remain focused on the Malava by-election, highlighting the constituency as a “one-people seat” and expressing confidence in DAP-K’s victory.
The party’s swift response underscores its commitment to maintaining unity and transparency ahead of critical political contests. DAP-K continues to call on members and the public to rely only on verified information regarding party matters.
