As the community of Kasipul grapples with the tragic death of their Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were, disturbing allegations are surfacing, shedding light on the darker side of the late lawmaker’s life.
A section of the constituents have come forward to recount the abuse and intimidation they allegedly suffered at the hands of the MP, adding a sinister layer to his legacy. One of the most shocking accounts comes from Edward Odhiambo, who, on April 28, 2025, was attacked in broad daylight during a funeral. The violent assault, which left him with severe injuries, allegedly occurred under the direct instruction of the late MP. Odhiambo was attacked by a man armed with a machete and was nearly killed. The brutal incident occurred in full view of the MP, who, according to Odhiambo, was complicit in the attack. “Huyu anaitwa Faruk alikuja na panga… mimi nimechapwa kama nyoka,” Odhiambo said, recalling the terror of that day.
Similarly, another constituent, Bobby, accused the late MP of orchestrating an attack on him and his brother, also during a funeral. These reports paint a picture of a man who used his position of power to instill fear and terrorize his own people.
Beyond these violent incidents, the MP is also accused of involvement in the 2010 disappearance of Dotty Apondi, a woman who was lured to Meru under the guise of employment. Her family claims that Were played a role in her disappearance, and efforts to find her were thwarted by threats and police inaction. Dotty’s family, still searching for answers, remains haunted by her unresolved fate.
These allegations paint a troubling portrait of the late MP, whose tenure in office appears to have been marked by violence, intimidation, and manipulation. As the community mourns his death, many are left with more questions than answers about the true nature of the man who once represented them.
