The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has successfully concluded 71 criminal cases over the past four months, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s fight against crime. This was announced on Thursday by the National Police Service (NPS) in a statement delivered by spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.
Nyaga attributed this progress to the DCI’s relentless efforts and professional diligence, noting that the achievement reflects a deep-rooted commitment to justice and the safety of all Kenyans. “Our officers have worked diligently to ensure that perpetrators of serious crimes are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted,” said Nyaga.
The resolved cases include high-profile investigations involving officials from the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (KUSSCO), and the controversial deaths of Multimedia University student Silvia Kemunto and British national Campbell Alistair Scott. Also highlighted was the murder of Aisha Abubakar, an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official based in Kilifi.
Nyaga further pointed to a breakthrough in a violent home invasion case targeting a Korean missionary couple at Elmarba Full Gospel Church in Oloililai, Kajiado County. Four suspects linked to the robbery were arrested and have since been arraigned in court.
Significant progress has also been reported in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were, a case that has drawn national attention and sparked widespread concern.
The DCI has been tackling a wide range of criminal activities, including murder, armed robbery, theft of goods in transit, defilement, illegal arms trafficking, drug-related offenses, and human trafficking.
Nyaga commended members of the public for their cooperation, emphasizing that community involvement is crucial in combating crime. He urged citizens to continue sharing information through police stations or toll-free numbers: 999, 911, 112, or via #FichuakwaDCI at 0800 722 203.
“All reports will be handled with utmost confidentiality,” Nyaga assured. “Together, we can build a safer and more just Kenya for all.”
