The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a probe into the killing of city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu. He was shot dead in a drive-by attack along Magadi Road on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
DCI Statement
In a statement on Wednesday, September 10, the agency sent condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Detectives led by the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO) rushed to the scene after the incident.
They were later joined by forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory and the DCI Homicide Bureau. The team secured the area and collected evidence to aid in the case.
“Our investigators are working diligently, employing all available resources to piece together the events surrounding this incident,” the DCI said.
The agency also urged the public to stay calm and share any information that could help track down the attackers.
Outrage from the Legal Fraternity
The killing has drawn sharp reactions from lawyers across the country. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) described the incident as a dark day for the profession.
“This most unfortunate occurrence marks a sad day for the legal profession and for the entire country,” said LSK President Faith Odhiambo.
Mbobu’s Legacy
Mr. Mbobu was an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with more than 30 years of practice. He served as Chairman of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal and lectured at the University of Nairobi.
His writings, especially in the field of evidence law, have guided many legal practitioners. The LSK praised his dedication to justice and described his contribution as an “indelible legacy.”
Calls for Justice
The LSK raised alarm over the safety of advocates, noting that many are targeted for their work.
“Too often, advocates have been victimised and targeted. We demand that the perpetrators of this act be hunted down and brought to justice,” Ms. Odhiambo said.
Kenyans now await answers as investigators work to uncover the motive behind the killing and bring those responsible to book.
