Detectives have recovered a vehicle reportedly used in the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi and arrested its owner in Juja Township. The arrested individual, described as a close ally of the MP and a 2022 UDA election agent in Juja, owns a Subaru Forester said to have blocked Koimburi’s car before the purported abduction.
According to police, Koimburi was allegedly abducted outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County, on Sunday and later found abandoned in a coffee plantation on Monday morning. Detectives are still tracing a bodaboda reportedly used to move the MP from a house in the area to the plantation. Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga termed the arrest of the car owner as a breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has, however, dismissed the abduction narrative as a political stunt. He revealed that investigations found no evidence of a kidnapping at the scene and cast doubt on a video circulating online that purports to show the abduction. “The vegetation and road dimensions did not match the video,” he stated, further pointing out that the caretaker of the coffee farm owned by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi denied witnessing any such incident.
Koimburi was later driven to Karen Hospital in Nairobi in his own vehicle, KCJ 660P, by a woman identified as Frida Njeri, who was also the first to find him. He is currently admitted at the facility, which has reportedly denied access to detectives, citing instructions from the MP’s family.
Opposition leaders, including Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka and former CS Justin Muturi, have rejected claims that Koimburi staged the abduction. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called for a parliamentary inquiry into the incident, linking it to increasing threats against lawmakers. He also cited the recent fatal shooting of Kabondo Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were as part of a troubling trend.
“This is a national concern. We demand answers,” Wetangula emphasized, urging heightened vigilance among leaders and citizens alike.
