The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is still analyzing mobile phones and electronic gadgets seized from the suspects linked to the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, a Nairobi court heard on Tuesday.
Appearing before Milimani Magistrate Mark Ekhubi, the prosecution informed the court that the forensic analysis of the recovered devices is ongoing at the DCI headquarters and its specialized forensic laboratories. The devices, which include mobile phones, were recovered from all five accused persons and are expected to be released within 21 days.
“The phones and other electronic gadgets have been forwarded to the DCI headquarters and forensic laboratories. The extraction process is still ongoing, and the items are expected to be released within 21 days,” the prosecution stated.
The accused MP George Koimburi, Peter Kiratu, David Macharia Gatana, Cyrus Muhia, and Murang’a MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu were present in court, each represented by their legal counsel. Their defence teams acknowledged receipt of partial submissions from the prosecution and agreed to adhere to the stated timelines.
Further, the prosecution reported that discussions between the parties had resulted in a mutual agreement to release impounded motor vehicles after seven days.
“We discussed the release of the motor vehicles and agreed they will be released after seven days,” said a counsel in court.
Magistrate Ekhubi commended the cooperation between the prosecution and defence, setting the matter for mention on September 10, 2025. This date will serve to confirm the status of evidentiary disclosures, including the return of the gadgets and vehicles.
The case originates from a May 25, 2025, incident in which Koimburi was reported missing after attending a church service. CCTV footage later emerged showing him being forced into a vehicle. He was later found and taken to Karen Hospital for treatment.
The MP and his co-accused are charged with allegedly conspiring to defeat justice by faking the abduction to evade arrest and arraignment at the Kiambu Law Courts on land fraud charges.
All five were released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 and barred from contacting witnesses. They must also report to the investigating officer as required.
