The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the investigation into the sudden death of Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joel Munuve. Munuve, who passed away on April 22, collapsed unexpectedly while heading to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), where he developed chest pains. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
In a statement made outside the Lee Funeral Home, where Munuve’s body is being preserved, family lawyer Danstan Omari confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted on Friday, April 26, at 9 am. The decision followed a meeting between the family, the government pathologist, the DCI’s Homicide Unit, and Munuve’s political family. The initial plan for the autopsy, which was scheduled for Thursday, was postponed to allow for the involvement of all stakeholders in the process.
The sudden passing of Munuve has left the Nairobi County Assembly and the Kariobangi North constituency in mourning. Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, Kennedy Ngondi, expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing Munuve as a dedicated and hardworking leader who was committed to his constituents. “Munuve was a tireless servant of the people and always had their interests at heart,” Ngondi said.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja also paid tribute to the late MCA, highlighting his unwavering commitment to serving the people of Kariobangi North. “Munuve was a leader who carried the hopes and aspirations of his constituents with dedication,” said Sakaja. “His loss will be deeply felt in the Assembly and among all who knew him.”
President William Ruto also joined in the mourning, recalling Munuve as a bold and enterprising leader who worked tirelessly for the betterment of his people. As the investigation into the cause of Munuve’s death continues, his family, colleagues, and constituents await answers while honoring his memory as a passionate community champion.
