The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has dismissed reports that its candidate, Edgar Busiega, has withdrawn from the Malava parliamentary by-election.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Saturday, the party called the reports “false and misleading.”
“Edgar Busiega remains firmly in the race, and we are confident of victory come November 27, 2025,” the statement read.
DCP Secretary General Hezron Obaga urged supporters and Malava residents to ignore the rumors and remain focused on the campaign.
Why the Seat is Contested
The Malava parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of MP Moses Malulu Injendi on February 17, 2025, while he was undergoing treatment in hospital.
Several parties have expressed interest in contesting the seat. The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aims to retain it, with senior officials meeting community leaders to rally support.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has opted out of the race, citing political cooperation with UDA. Analysts note that clan dynamics and endorsements from influential Kabras sub-tribes will play a major role in the election.
Among the potential candidates is the late Injendi’s son, though his party affiliation is not yet confirmed.
Other Upcoming By-Elections
The Malava contest is part of a series of by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025, following an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazette notice on August 8.
Other National Assembly by-elections will be held in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Mbeere North, and Ugunja. A Senate by-election in Baringo County and several ward representative (MCA) races will also take place on the same date.
DCP Confident of Victory
As the campaign heats up, DCP has reaffirmed its commitment to Edgar Busiega, signaling confidence in a strong performance in Malava.
