DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua returned to Kenya on Thursday afternoon after cutting short his tour of the United States, touching down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) aboard a 15-hour flight.
The former Deputy President was welcomed by a large delegation of political allies, senior party officials, and an enthusiastic crowd of supporters who had camped at the airport from the morning hours. Among the leaders at JKIA to receive him were DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala, Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara, and other prominent party members.
As Gachagua disembarked, the arrival terminal erupted into loud chants and songs of solidarity from hundreds of supporters waving banners and placards with his name. The charged atmosphere briefly overwhelmed security officers, who were forced to intervene to restore order and manage the crowd.
The massive turnout at the airport also caused significant disruption to traffic along the Mombasa Highway and Nairobi Expressway, the main arteries leading to JKIA. Police officers erected barricades and diverted vehicles as the crowd swelled, with motorcades of political leaders adding to the congestion.
Despite the excitement and expectation, Gachagua did not immediately address the press or the supporters upon landing. His motorcade quickly left the airport under tight security, further fueling speculation about his next political move.
Reports indicate that the DCP leader is expected to make a major address at Kamukunji grounds, a venue historically associated with political mobilization and public declarations. His decision to cut short his US tour and return to the country has stirred political debate, with many awaiting his message to supporters.
Gachagua’s arrival underscores growing momentum within the DCP as it seeks to solidify its position in the national political landscape. His address at Kamukunji is expected to outline his stance on current political developments and rally supporters ahead of what could be a heated political season.
