Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to opposition leaders, cautioning them against attempts to use violence as a means of seizing power. Speaking on Saturday during the Baringo South Economic Empowerment event at Marigat Grounds, Kindiki emphasized that Kenya’s democracy provides avenues for anyone seeking leadership without resorting to chaos.
“The idea being pursued by some that you can use violence to control and manage politics is dangerous. They don’t care about the security of the nation, whether there is peace or not. Their only interest is power,” the DP said.
Kindiki underscored that Kenya’s peace and stability must never be compromised, urging the current generation to safeguard it for posterity. He declared that violence would not be tolerated as a political tool, stressing that the country belongs to all Kenyans and must remain peaceful regardless of political competition.
The Deputy President challenged the opposition to present tangible solutions and policy alternatives instead of what he termed as “agenda-less rhetoric” and slogans. He noted that the government’s agenda in key sectors such as health, education, agriculture, electricity, and infrastructure should be countered with superior ideas, not violence.
“We cannot allow people without an agenda to take the country at ransom and spread fear among Kenyans because they want to ascend to power,” Kindiki added.
Highlighting his role as former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kindiki recalled leading over 19 security missions in Baringo to curb banditry. He praised the progress made in restoring peace, which has now paved the way for major development projects.
Among the initiatives underway are the construction of 12 modern markets, including a Ksh.350 million project in Marigat, ongoing affordable housing projects, and the upcoming Marigat-Mochongoi-Karandini-Muhotetu-Sipili road. Additionally, Ksh.783 million has been allocated for last-mile electricity connections to power 4,000 more households.
“Baringo is now a haven of development. It is a place for progress, not tears and agony,” the DP said, reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring 100 percent security in the region.
