Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has explained why President William Ruto faces strong opposition from some Kenyans.
Speaking on Friday, September 19, 2025, during the launch of the SHA Sponsorship Program at State House in Nairobi, Duale said Ruto’s openness is the main reason.
He revealed that the President has allowed ordinary Kenyans to freely visit and interact at State House, something that previous leaders never encouraged.
“Mimi, nilikua nakuja State House, wakati wa Mheshimiwa Uhuru na Mheshimiwa Kibaki na sijawahi kuona Wakenya wa tabaka hii kuja kukaa hapa. Ndio maana uko na adui wengi,” Duale told the gathering.
Why Ruto’s Style Is Different
According to Duale, past administrations kept State House exclusive. It was a place for political leaders and top officials only.
Ruto has changed this tradition. He has opened the gates to teachers, doctors, civil servants, and ordinary Kenyans. Duale said this inclusivity is what makes some critics angry.
“People are angry because this is not how politics has been done, but it is the right way,” he added.
Building Trust With Citizens
Duale praised the President for creating a welcoming space. He argued that citizens now feel seen and heard. This, he said, strengthens trust between the government and its people.
The SHA Sponsorship Program launch was a perfect example. Thousands of Kenyans attended the event, dressed in SHA-branded T-shirts. The atmosphere reflected the inclusivity Ruto wants to promote.
A New Style of Governance
Observers note that Ruto’s approach is transforming how State institutions operate. His open-door policy and grassroots programs like SHA are breaking old political barriers.
While the move has attracted critics, it has also built goodwill across the country. Duale believes this openness is exactly why Ruto has many enemies but also why he is earning the trust of ordinary Kenyans.
