Health Cs Aden Duale has strongly criticised Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for declaring that he would abolish President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing Programme if he wins the presidency in 2027. Speaking in Laikipia on Sunday, October 12, Duale termed Kalonzo’s promise “unfair and elitist,” arguing that it would deny millions of Kenyans the opportunity to own decent and affordable homes.
“All leaders in our country get a KSh30 million mortgage to buy houses. Many live in high-end estates like Karen, yet they oppose the president’s plan to construct houses for middle-class and low-income citizens,” Duale said.
The CS took issue with Kalonzo’s recent remarks, in which the Wiper boss said his first executive order would be to scrap the housing levy. “I have seen Kalonzo claiming that his first executive order will be removing the housing levy, yet he lives in an expensive house in Karen guarded by over 20 dogs,” Duale remarked, accusing the opposition leader of being out of touch with the struggles of ordinary Kenyans.
Duale reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the housing and healthcare projects, saying they are enshrined in the Constitution and designed to uplift citizens’ living standards. “Politicians are coming to say that people should reject the housing and healthcare projects, yet these are guaranteed rights under the Constitution. Please don’t listen to such politicians,” he added.
He also urged leaders to refrain from divisive and insulting politics, warning that such behaviour sets a poor example for future generations. “We must live and play politics of nation-building,” Duale said.
Meanwhile, President Ruto reiterated his pledge to promote national unity by engaging leaders from across the country. However, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua criticised the move, claiming it could sideline the Mount Kenya region.
