Embu County security authorities have taken proactive measures to ensure a peaceful Mbeere North by-election set for November 27, 2025. The Embu County Security Committee, chaired by County Commissioner Jack Obuo, has warned individuals planning to disrupt the electoral process that they will face the full force of the law.
Addressing the media in Embu town on Thursday, Obuo noted that the region has largely experienced calm and issue-based campaigns since the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cleared the candidates. However, he expressed concern over recent threats circulating on social media.
“Over the past few days, clips have been circulating online threatening to disrupt rallies. This cannot be tolerated,” Obuo said. He confirmed that four individuals have already been summoned for questioning after recording themselves making threats, specifically targeting a rally attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Investigations are ongoing, and anyone found culpable will face legal action.
Obuo emphasised that security agencies are fully prepared to respond firmly to any attempts to incite violence or create tension in the constituency. He urged all candidates to demonstrate leadership by promoting peace, political tolerance, and respect for divergent opinions.
“The candidates must urge their supporters to remain peaceful. Politics should not divide our people,” Obuo stated.
The commissioner also called on all aspirants to inform the police ahead of political meetings to ensure adequate security, highlighting that such cooperation helps prevent confrontations that could escalate into violence.
Residents were further advised to stay calm and avoid being influenced by hate speech or misleading propaganda online. Obuo assured that the government is closely monitoring social media to ensure that messages of peace dominate political discourse in the run-up to the by-election.
With these measures, Embu authorities aim to maintain stability and safeguard democratic processes, ensuring that the Mbeere North by-election is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
